America's Next Industrial Revolution
CREATING AN ECONOMY WITH PROSPERITY FOR EVERYONE
The prosperity has to be of an environmentally sustainable type and everyone who is willing to avail of the opportunities can benefit.
To do this, we have to do FOUR things:
1. INNOVATE and BUILD everything we all need - mainly the basics
2. INNOVATE and BUILD for the green economy of the future - be the leader!
(For this see the Adjoining Page on re-industrializing to a Green America)
3. Make sure that these favor big increases in employment and new businesses.
4. Make sure that these lead to the greening and beautifying of our lands and coasts.
"BASICS - Everyone should have an opportunity to earn their basics if he or she is willing to work hard - with added opportunities for creativity and learning"
How do we do this? See the summaries below. Detailed strategy documents will follow.

1. INVENT and BUILD everything we need
PROBLEM: TRUMP'S ECONOMY OF SCARCITY
Trump's economy and that of the Republicans is the "Economics of Scarcity" - other nations are stealing from us (so Tariffs), immigrants are stealing our jobs (so deport) and federal workers are stealing from our budget (so lay off).
SOLUTIONS:
1. OUR ECONOMY OF ABUNDANCE OR PROSPERITY
In their book, "Abundance" Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson (Avid Reader Press, 2025) describe how the USA can do much better by inventing and building everything we need instead of focussing on scarcity.
2. A RE-INDUSTRIALIZATION THAT IS PRO-EMPLOYMENT AND PRO-ENVIRONMENT
In my book, "Rejuvenating America - Rejuvenate - Visions of a Better America" by Hari Lamba, Self Published (2018) and available on Amazon, I have described how in order to make sure the prosperity is widespread, a four point Jobs and Economy strategy is proposed that is pro-employment and pro-environment.
Example of the Economy of Abundance Strategy
If we have a shortage of affordable housing, then we just organize nationally and build 10 million housing units fast that are affordable, energy efficient, net-zero (have lots of solar energy) and innovative energy efficient technologies like air source or ground source heat pumps. Units are modular and easy to construct and require very little energy to heat and cool. Research labs and universities can help private contractors who then compete for contracts to build them by the thousands all over the country, with regulations modified to make these less time to be approved and get through community engagement.
We did such things during World War II to gear up with new or replaced factories to build weapons systems in very short times - why cannot we do it now?
MAIN STRATEGY OF HOW WE IMPLEMENT THE ECONOMY OF PROSPERITY
Some REAL Fundamentals: The US currently has a "Market Rational" economy in which the Federal Government (the "State") lets the market decide what happens. This has functioned in such a way as to enable the bigger actors to distort the economy and trade and employment to favor themselves and reduce the incomes of everyone else. The "Plan Ideological" economy is like that of the former Communist Soviet Union in which the state decided everything - it did not work. On the other hand the "Plan Rational economy is one in which the "State" takes on developmental functions but works with private industry to set industrial policy that modifies the structure of domestic Industry in order to enhance international competitiveness" (Quote from my earlier book, "Rethinking Progress").
The Defense Sector of the US economy functions in a "Plan Rational" fashion which is why the US leads the world in Defense technology (although it spends too much money on deployment and wars). Japan used the "Plan Rational" approach through its Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) to develop its economy out of the ashes of World War II with considerable success in the last century.
I am recommending a "Plan Rational" Approach for the US to revitalize its economy for the benefit of everyone, and an increase in exports through systematic export promotion to reduce the trade deficit. At this stage, if the US has to compete effectively with China and create a general prosperity, it cannot leave things to chance. As at the start of World War II, it needs to have an industrial policy that helps it to invent and build, creating new or expanded industries. Private persons or companies will ONLY get tax breaks for actual construction and operation of new or expanded factories - NOT tax cuts which have given and will give NO national benefits and only increase the earnings of billionaires.
Although the actual ways can change based on what gets finalized, this strategy will need a new organization like the Department of Industrial Reconstruction (DIR), which will coordinate with enhanced federal Research Labs, University Research and research in companies and by individuals to get the whole process of inventing and building going. The whole process may be called Research, Development, Demonstration and Deployment (RDD&D). At each stage entities will compete as they do in Defense and only those that meet the success criteria will advance to the next step.
HOW DO WE ENSURE THAT THE BENEFITS ARE WIDESPREAD?
For this I have proposed a four point strategy in my book "Rejuvenating America" for a pro-employment and pro-environment change:
1. Investing in human capital - pro- employment tax reform. Tax policy has favored the machine - now it's time to favor man. Plus payroll tax deductions for hiring people. Companies do not get tax cuts! They only get Tax Credits when THEY ACTUALLY BUILD AND OPERATE A FACTORY"
2. Through research and design develop factories that employ more people - factories that are more skill intensive or retain control of final assembly inside the US..
3. Local Production for Local Use: America's depressed communities have suffered much - they need better working economies that are more local and use local resources (agricultural products) and plentiful solar energy to improve their production and consumption.
4. Transforming ALL industry and activities for the Clean and Green Economy of the Future - becoming the world leader. See the "Green America" Sub-Page for this.
- Trump has taken sledgehammer with tariffs, federal layoffs and tax cuts for the wealthy. He has caused higher prices, tariff taxes and a recession which will lead to higher federal and trade deficits and maybe even a depression.
- To solve the trade and federal deficits, we will implement a massive re-industrialization and export promotion based on American innovation and deployment that is pro-employment and pro-environment leading to widespread prosperity, instead of prosperity only for the few billionaires. The federal budget will be balanced by increased taxes on the billionaires and not by Medicaid cuts.
